Help with cutting out sugar

Protocol To Help With Sugar Cravings

In today’s society, sugar addiction is a very real problem.  Even though sugar is more addictive than cocaine and a major risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease, it is widely distributed and extremely prevalent.  Cutting added sugar out of the diet is crucial for good health.  But can be difficult because of its addictive nature.

The protocol below is designed to help you wean from sugar.  Be patient with yourself as this could take a couple of months and there may be ups and downs.  Stress, holidays, or lack of focus can contribute to relapses as well.   If that happens, you can repeat the protocol below multiple times as needed.

Below are the simple steps.

1. Remove the temptation
Get sugar, sweets, and sugary drinks out of the house so they are not easy to reach for in the moment.

2. Be prepared
Pick up a bottle of L-Glutamine in 500 mg capsules from a health food store.

3. Stop added sugar as much as possible
Avoid obvious sources of sugar such as candy, soda, sports drinks, sweet tea, chocolate, cakes, cookies, pies, and other baked goods.

4. When a craving hits, pause
Take one 500 mg capsule of L-Glutamine and wait 5 minutes.

5. If the craving is still there
Take a second 500 mg capsule and wait another 5 minutes.

6. Use a backup plan
If the craving has not passed, try chewing a piece of sugar-free gum, drinking a glass of water, or choosing a balanced snack with protein and healthy fat.

7. If you still give in, be kind to yourself
Do not turn one craving into a reason to quit. Just notice it, let it go, and start fresh with the next one.

8. Repeat the process
Use this protocol each time a craving comes up. Over time, many people find that cravings become less intense and less frequent.

Note to self~

This is not about perfection. It is about creating new habits, supporting your body, and giving yourself the chance to make steady progress.
